Sure there is, they had nobody else who was better. If they did Sanchez would have been benched; it is as simple as that.
Start Tebow for one game and see if he's as bad as you think he is, simple as that. Heck, do it when the team was eliminated from playoff contention. Therefore, you can say you tried something different and it didn't work and move on. It really isn't that difficult.

Apparently for you it is. You don't think the coaches see him in practice every day? They knew he couldn't do the job. The idea that they held him back becasue he was a celebrity is just silly. They would gladly put up with the distraction if the guy could win.

It truly sounded like an adamant refusal to even consider either. Again, it COULD just be spin to keep everyone guessing.

Prior to Hacksaw's report, the rumor mill had Tebow going to AZ. We all know what happened the last time a supposedly "washed up" QB went to the Cards....
Please don't insult the game of football by comparing Tebow to Kurt Warner. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

I bet the Denver coaches felt the same way. :coffee:

Like an NFL coach is willing to put his job on the line over some sort of principled stand against Tebow. Yeah, Tebow did so well for Denver they couldn't wait to ship him off. As of now, it doesn't appear any team wants Tebow to even be a backup QB. Are you really saying that all 32 teams have a vendetta against Tim Tebow?
First, Rex's job was also put on the line when starting Sanchez, who is one of the worst QBs in the league. He also put his job on the line when starting Mcillroy over Tebow, and how did that work out? Sounds like he should have been fired since both Sanchez and Mcillroy sucked.

Second, if you can get Peyton Manning, then yes, of course you are going to ship Tebow off. :dunce:

And finally, I think teams would take Tebow as a backup, but the problem is he is a celebrity. Therefore, they don't want the distraction.
First, Rex is still the HC. Try again.

Second, they were willing to ship him off before getting Peyton. Try again. :dunce:

Finally, you will find any excuse that does not include his ability to play QB. Look, I like Tebow and I would like to see him succeed as a starter in the NFL. Unfortunately, the people in the NFL that have more football knowledge than both of us combined, disagree with your statement.

Of course they are part of the equation. That's why he will remain the QB of the jets this year. Last year, he was frankly one of the worst QBs in the league. I'm sorry but winning a couple playoff games only gets you so far. He should have been benched and there's no valid argument against it. :ohno:
Of course there is a valid argument against it--the Jets' backup QB's. That's easily a valid argument.

As BlueHen86 said, don't they see Tebow in practice everyday? They, better than anyone, know what he can do. They don't need to trot him into a game to satisfy a Seahawks/Tebow fan.

OMFG, just give the guy a chance. One game! Again, after they were eliminated from the playoffs, there was ZERO reason to keep starting Sanchez if your argument is that he gave them the best chance to win. If anything, they would get a better draft pick with Tebow starting since they were most likely going to lose in your opinion. Plus, they could show their fans how bad he was.

But I'm done with this now, you know my position and I know yours and there's no way of validating either one.

C'mon man. This is the NFL, not little league. Tebow had his chance--in practice. You only get to start if you've earned the right to start. It's the same with players on every team. They have to earn the chance to start. Being famous for being virtuous isn't the same as being the best player in your position on the team. The Jets/Rex Ryan don't have a personal vendetta against Tebow. Rex Ryan's job is to try to win every game. His job is not to play Tebow so that he gets a "chance" or to prove "how bad he was" to fans.

What about all the other guys on the team that don't start? Why should Tebow get special consideration? If the coaches don't think he can do better than the starter then he should not start.

A coaches job is to put his team in the best position to win a game, not start a guy just because he has a cult following.

Maybe you didn't understand it the first time. I'll write it differently. You aren't going to convince me that Tebow should not have started. I watched most of the Jets games this year and listened to what was going on behind the scenes. So, it's time to move on. :dead:

Wrong.

If that were the case, Kaepernick would have never started a game this year (other than the period when Smith was injured) because he didn't win the job in training camp.

He's not wrong. Even though Smith was the starter, the SF coaches knew that Kaepernick could do the job. Smith's injury gave him the chance to prove it.

I'd like to see Tebow succeed, but I don't think there is a conspiracy to keep him down. If the Jets coaches aren't playing him I think it is because they don't think he can play. They don't need a live game to show them what they already see in practice. Maybe the Jets system isn't the best one for him, in that case I hope he gets an opportunity somewhere else.

86, that's the most rational argument I've seen on this thread, including mine.

The plain fact of the matter is that most of his fans were initially attracted by the fact that he's a Christian (me included, as I am NOT a fan of Florida), and most of his detractors are repelled by that fact. Both sides try to gloss their arguments in terms of game play. The detractors will deny that, but MOST of them are lying. The detractors who are lying are the ones who want him gone NOW. Tebow fanatics want him to start NOW regardless of who's there. There ARE rational people on both sides, though. The rational fans merely want open competition, believing that Tebow can win the starting job on most teams in open training camp competition. The rational detractors want the same because they believe that will prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that Tebow is not NFL material. Open competition is the only way to really prove that, either way.

I believe that Tebow could be the starter on MOST teams, but not all. I'm not crazy enough to believe he could beat out P. Manning, Brady, etc. But he could probably win the starting job in half to 3/4 or more of existing NFL cities, particularly Dallas, Arizona, Buffalo, and Miami. Of course, that's strictly my opinion.

Alright, settle down there. Let's not go overboard on this. Clenz is right that Arizona would be the only place where Tebow could win the starting gig outright. But even then, he would be on a short leash. I would say he would give Sanchez on the Jets some major competition, but he's not going to get that chance. The Jags would be smart to bring him in as a stopgap so they could improve other areas in the draft, but they don't want him. Sadly, it looks like he may have to switch to fullback at this point if he wants to play.
