When I mention black culture I'm referring to the total disintegration of the nuclear family, the disrespect of women, hip hop culture of violence, gangs, lack of emphasis on education, extraordinarily high crime rate, and the void of moral leadership in the black community.

I responded to this notion in my previous post but I would warn against being selective in your criticism as some of those things are not apparent in exclusively the black community, and we wouldn't want to be selective.

Poverty can accelerate the problems listed. Poverty is a problem of the black community which can be attributed to lack of capital, lack of employment, and other things that the community isn't directly responsible for.

Well, that doesn't seem to hold Asians back, most of whom came to the US:
-not speaking a lick of English
-not much more than the clothes on their backs
-being a minority, who while not ever enslaved, faced much discrimination in the 19th and the majority of the 20th century.

And a large percentage of them became successfull, with their kids not only exceeding blacks and hispanics academically, but (non hispanic) whites as well.

YT, serious question: have you ever, knowingly, been discriminated against because of your race? I know I have been. I've been beaten up for being catholic( thanks to the SC KKK), I've been taunted and beaten for being white( 5th grade, PE class.) it exists. You seem to think it doesn't.

I have been victim of prejudice (the Catholic thing is a different dynamic), and I haven't said that that doesn't exist. We're at an etymological disconnect. We're talking about 2 different things. My experience isn't nearly as bad as what others of a different skin tone face with normalized discrimination.

This is precisely why you are going to have trouble with most of the posters who have a little more experience than you. You are quoting studies that simply point out that police spend more time in predominately black neighborhoods than white ones. You haven't even come close to the stage where you are asking yourself why this is so. You're happy to take the stats at face value, quote them for the sake of argument and then move on.

I strongly suggest that you do a ride-along or three with your local PD. You might find that reality is something different from Sociology 101.

In Charleston, over 65% of 911 calls are made from there, by residents. Every single black city councilman is hollering for more police in their East Side neighborhoods out of one side of their face, and then they hop on down to the local AME on Sunday and bitch about profiling out the other. Wendell Gilliard was on the phone constantly calling for cops to come clear corners downtown, and then his fellow councilman Kwadjo Campbell would walk up and give you sh!t for doing just that.

Cops don't want to spend all their time in the hood, YT. They are there because those same downtrodden horsewhipped discriminated against Afro Americans beg them to be there.

Maybe it's "problematic", but for all the other reasons than you would care to open yourself up to.

My position put simply is yes it is prejudiced, but racism is more than just prejudice. Racism is prejudice + power. And white people have all the power.

So, every comment that's racially insensitive is prejudiced, but not necessarily racist. follow? I'll admit I was inconsistent right there but I only made the concession because people focus more on the question of whether or not it's racist (ie hateful, and so on) and I'm trying to communicate a broader point and I don't want to be stuck on that one little tidbit which is basically and etymological miscommunication.
