Appalachian's Sean Price Booted From Team

Post by Aho Old Guy »

So long to bad rubbish ...
Satterfield Dismisses Football Standout Sean Price After Another Arrest
Price was arrested on Sunday morning at 1:38 a.m. for grabbing a 20-year-old male by the throat and choking the individual ... Along with the felony assault by strangulation charge, Price was charged with being drunk and disruptive and resisting a public officer.
Another Local Article
... issued a $20,000 secured bond ... still in custody as of Monday morning.

Price also has charges pending from an August incident outside a Howard Street bar ... Former Appalachian State University Coach Jerry Moore also suspended Price during the 2012 season for two games due to a "violation of team rules."

I heard about this the other day, and hoped it was just some stupid rumor.

That kid has all the talent but none of the brains.

The interesting thing is that I can't seem to find any ASU fans that are upset about this. I'm certainly not upset and I applaud the administration for taking a zero tolerance approach with Price. Clearly he doesn't care enough about the program to follow the rules and is shortsighted enough not to understand that he probably had an NFL career ahead of him. McDonald's always needs a fry guy, so best of luck to him.

not sure it qualifies as "zero tolerance" when he's on at least his third strike.
I'm not saying that I think he should have been booted earlier, as I don't know the whole situation.
but it's not zero tolerance.

Could be ASU has a three strikes rule. After that you're done.
But yeah, maybe you have no idea what you're talking about. :coffee:

I'm talking about MATH.
three is more than zero.

He broke the rules last year = no "hey let's work this out" - automatic suspension for two games
Broke the rules this year = no "hey let's work this out" - suspended for four games
Broke the rules for a second time this year = "we no longer require your services."

If he has any eligibility, JMU probably has a scholarship open next year.

Ugly situation all around.

I'm really afraid Satterfield is losing (or maybe has already lost) the team.

A few players have been tweeting things like:

"freeSP"

"Bring Back Jerry"

etc.

This could not come at a worse time... as getting off on the wrong foot going to FBS could see us stall for a decade or longer.

When I saw we only drew a little over 25K for homecoming you could see that the fans are being lost also.

Somebody will snatch him up Inspite of personal problems too much talent to let go by the wayside!!!He has Moss like size 6-5 210 but not the speed 4.55.Maybe Alabama St could take chance on him they took a chance on Isiah Crowder ex-Georgia RB or Jackson St like they took a chance on ex- QB Casey Therriault a juco product.

He's a sophomore (though evidence would indicate he's more moros than sophos, but I digress), right?

And since ASU is just beginning the transition to FBS, I'm guessing that if he were to transfer to another D-I program, he would have to sit out a year, and would only have one year of eligibility remaining.

Then he should stay at the FCS level to maintain his eligibility. As stated before he has too much talent to remain unwanted.

he'd still have to sit out a year if he stayed at the FCS level. Only way he could play next year would be if he went D2, D3, or NAIA. (unless there is some clause I don't know about).

He's from Reston, Va -- not sure if there are any DIIs in the DC area that might take a flyer on him. I think he should finish out the semester in Boone if he wants another shot at college football, and get his legal troubles behind him. Not sure how the powers that be in App athletics would feel about that, though, but there is no way the dysfunctional student court could give him a fair suspension/dismissal from school by the end of the year, anyway. It's a mess.

And, I don't want to pick at this scab too much, but we've got a disaster-in-waiting. Appalachian is now the 7th FBS school in North Carolina (counting UNCC), with another 3 or 4 in direct regional competition for these guys.

State & Carolina will get first dibs on the guys who don't go SEC or other national programs. Wake & Dook will get the smart guys. East Carolina (EZU!) was the obvious choice for those less inclined toward the Big 4 (or those of borderline academic standing) in the state. I'm not sure where UNCC will fit in the mix but I suspect they'll be EZU-lite all around.

To folks from outside the mountains, it's also hard to explain the love for Tennessee around here, too. UT will flat-out win the competition for the top DI prospects in western North Carolina. It's just always been this way.

Then, yah got that damn ol' ball coach from South Carolina cherry-pickin' the state, and to a lesser extent, Clempson and UGA. VPI and the Wahoos get their fair share each year, too, to a lesser extent...

Which makes it all very, very hard to snag the quality athlete/academic/character guys to build an FBS program around.

And since I'm old, stupid, bitter and retarded  I won't rip open the wound any further, but a strong, successful, black role model as head coach (like Rod Broadway!) could go a long way toward putting some of the characters on the straight and narrow.

That would be a nice idea teaming him along with Kevin Francis at A&T two 6-5 WRs would be a nightmare for other schools in the MEAC.Hope the Aggies have a QB that could get these two the ball.Unfortunately Broadway is somewhat conservative in the area of a passing offense.

Players can transfer from FBS programs to FCS programs w/o having to sit out, but if they transfer from one FCS team to another FCS team, they have to sit a year (same as if they transfer from one FBS to another FBS).

I know ASU is beginning the transition to FBS, but I don't think they are far enough in the process to be considered FBS in terms of that rule (but I'm only about 80% sure of that)

Sure, because three times is not enough chances for a thug.
Never underestimate the ability of a desperate school to overlook almost any character flaws if they think a prospect might help their team.

Though considering what he has demonstrated, the big question is if the kid is smart enough to survive in college, and/or avoid jail while at the next program. Hate to see anyone shoot themselves in the foot but based on his history, if given a chance elsewhere, it looks likely he'll reload and shoot off the other foot.
