He's from Reston, Va -- not sure if there are any DIIs in the DC area that might take a flyer on him. I think he should finish out the semester in Boone if he wants another shot at college football, and get his legal troubles behind him. Not sure how the powers that be in App athletics would feel about that, though, but there is no way the dysfunctional student court could give him a fair suspension/dismissal from school by the end of the year, anyway. It's a mess.
And, I don't want to pick at this scab too much, but we've got a disaster-in-waiting. Appalachian is now the 7th FBS school in North Carolina (counting UNCC), with another 3 or 4 in direct regional competition for these guys.
State & Carolina will get first dibs on the guys who don't go SEC or other national programs. Wake & Dook will get the smart guys. East Carolina (EZU!) was the obvious choice for those less inclined toward the Big 4 (or those of borderline academic standing) in the state. I'm not sure where UNCC will fit in the mix but I suspect they'll be EZU-lite all around.
To folks from outside the mountains, it's also hard to explain the love for Tennessee around here, too. UT will flat-out win the competition for the top DI prospects in western North Carolina. It's just always been this way.
Then, yah got that damn ol' ball coach from South Carolina cherry-pickin' the state, and to a lesser extent, Clempson and UGA. VPI and the Wahoos get their fair share each year, too, to a lesser extent...
Which makes it all very, very hard to snag the quality athlete/academic/character guys to build an FBS program around.
And since I'm old, stupid, bitter and retarded

I won't rip open the wound any further, but a strong, successful, black role model as head coach (like Rod Broadway!) could go a long way toward putting some of the characters on the straight and narrow.
