Maybe I should pick a "big boy" school to cheer for as well and then talk shit...

This is a pretty lame statement. My son wrestles for one of the smaller D1 programs. We still support the team.CitadelGrad wrote:You're still not going to beat Penn State or the other big boys.clenz wrote: shitgrad was quick to dismiss UNI in the UNI wrestling thread but UNI wrestling is going in the right direction, and quickly. FWIW he could have gone to Penn St and wrestled.

No he couldn't...The #1 wrestler in 133, from UNI, couldn't wresle there...BlueHen86 wrote:This is a pretty lame statement. My son wrestles for one of the smaller D1 programs. We still support the team.CitadelGrad wrote:

there are olympic gold medalists that wouldn't wrestling for Penn State. The fucking Gable brothers? They couldn't wrestle for them. Well, maybe practice wrestlers.

I didn't say he would start, but yes, he would wrestle. Lots of open tourneys that he could enter. Two of his friends have championships rings from the last few years.clenz wrote:No he couldn't...The #1 wrestler in 133, from UNI, couldn't wresle there...BlueHen86 wrote:

The back-ups get to wear Penn St singlets at the tourneys and they get to travel to meets.

Good thing that UNI is on it's way to rejoining the "big boys" of wrestling.CitadelGrad wrote:You're still not going to beat Penn State or the other big boys.clenz wrote: shitgrad was quick to dismiss UNI in the UNI wrestling thread but UNI wrestling is going in the right direction, and quickly. Durso wins both matches today to advance to quarter finals for second straight year. Needs one more win to medal. Won second match 3-2 over #5 seed Chris Mecate of ODU, riding time turned out to be the decisive point.BlueHen86 wrote:Gotta give a shout out to my sons F&M teammate Rick Durso.
Durso is the only Franklin & Marshall wrestler to make the tourney this year. Rick is a junior and this is his third trip to the championship tourney. Last year he came up just short of AA, this year he is the 12 seed at 141. Good luck Rick!

At 141 lbs #11 seed Joey Lazor of UNI beats #6 seed Chris Dardanes of Minn 10-8. Lazor advances to quarter finals against #3 Zain Retherford of Penn St.
Re: 2014 NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Championships
But...uni cant every hang with any big boy schools...never mind in duals this year uni 5 or 6 top10 teams.
No one has claimed UNI would beat Iowa or Penitentiary Statebut there is a reason uni financed #4 in dual rankings.
UNI was a top 10 finisher at the ncaas not too long ago then a coach was brought in that nearly decimated the program. Just 3 years into Schwabs tenure and UNI is looking a second straight top 15 finish, and a good shot at top 10 finish square in the face.
Shitgrad just has some sort of complex related to anything that might involve PSU.
It's also pretty easy to dominate when you spend more on wrestling than most schools do on athletics.
Why don't you ever talk about shitadel wrestling? Is that not worth your time since they aren't a big boy? Matter of fact Abby do you care about any citadel sports? They aren't big time in anything. They aren't even big time in relation to their own conference

I felt bad for Ugi until he STB in consy's, losing 13-2 to unseeded Nick Lester of Oklahoma. Maybe the seeding committee got this one right after all.CitadelGrad wrote:The Citadel won three of its five first round matches. Ugi, who finished 4th last year but is unranked now, drew the #3 seed. The NCAA screwed him by causing him to miss half of the season with a bogus eligibility ruling. Then how do you explain his #4 finish last year? Ugi wasn't even able to wrestle competitively this season until the season was more than half finished, thanks to the NCAA.BlueHen86 wrote:I felt bad for Ugi until he STB in consy's, losing 13-2 to unseeded Nick Lester of Oklahoma. More than half finished? He was 22-5 coming in, that's 27 matches. The #1 seed and the #2 wrestled 28 each. You're making excuses. UNI advances 2 to the semi's
125 Dylan Peters
133 Joe Colon
141 Lazor fell 5-2 to a mighty Penn State wrestler (I think the #2 or 4 guy)...so not bad who legitimately missed over half the season from a tiny ass school that doesn't deserve any recognition. He'll wrestle back for third.

He lost to Zain Retherford, Retherford is #3 seed and was undefeated until B1G final where he lost to #2 Seed Logan Stieber. Retherford handed Stieber his only loss earlier this year. Stieber-Retherford should be the final, but they are on same side of bracket. #1 seed is Mitchell Port of Edinboro who went undefeated - until a few minutes ago where he lost to #9 seed.clenz wrote:UNI advances 2 to the semi's

I like Lazor's chances in consy's, needs one more win to get All-American.

The Citadel isn't big time so they aren't worth claiming.
BTW, how many All American's does it take to be considered a *big boy* in wrestling? That why I'll know when I can start caring about UNI...

Anyway, back to wrestling...
At the moment UNI is up to 8th place in team scoring. Pretty impressive. They trail 4 B1G schools, OK St, Cornell and Edinboro.
