Fucking Obamacare. I'm so glad it's saving me money.

Last year, a sick visit was a $20 copay.

Today, it's $90 co-insurance.

You'll notice that Insurance companies (some of the most profitable companies in the world)
Are NOT complaining about Obama Care - in fact they've never made so much money and done so little

Of course they are happy. They now charge you each month AND make you reach an high deductible before they do a fucking thing. The ONLY way this could be a good idea is if at the end of the year, you were refunded money you didn't use. It's June and I'm using insurance for the first time. $400+ a month wasted. Fucking liberals. I seriously hope a republicans wins in 2016.

I bet it's cheaper for me to Not be insured

Doubt it.

Meanwhile, I had to ask how much the visit would be if I had no insurance: $30.

The Affordable Care Act may still get repealed
There is enough traction from employed people who vote to get a look see

Iba, have you ever considered you just might be an idiot and got the wrong insurance or provider?

Agreed - if the doctor had a cash price of $30, but charged you $90 co-pay, that is an out-right lie on the doctor's part.

Do you get insurance through work? A lot of companies are using the cover of ACA to cut back their expense, and then blame their cheapness on the ACA, when in fact THEY are pocketing the money.

No. have you considered that people have different experiences and this is one thing the democrats have royally fucked up?

But I guess you were on the phone with me, right.

My insurance used to be great. $20 copay. I think we paid around $500 total for all the dr visits for our baby to be born. Hell, 3 yrs ago, I was in the hospital for a week and I paid around $400 (out of pocket plus ER fee) or so to meet the deductible and the rest was paid for. That was great. It was worth it. Even now, I like that wellness visits and vaccinations are covered, I know some people that are paying through the nose for vaccine b/c their insurance doesn't cover the total cost. But this co-insurance part is fucked up.

I thought it sounded weird as well. I told a co-worker, who goes to a different pediatrician and she was told that the cash amount was way less than the co-insurance part.

Dback, it's co-insurance. Not co-pay. There's a difference.

Edit: Of course I have insurance through work. I couldn't imagine how expensive it would be without my employer subsidizing it.

Maybe i'm not presenting the situation correctly.

Billing: The office visit is $100 plus whatever tests the doctor has to run.

Me: How much would the office visit be if I had no insurance?

Billing: $30.

Me: Seriously. Can we forget that I have insurance?

Billing: I'm sorry sir, we aren't allowed to do that.

There is nothing magic about Obamacare. The immutable axioms and corollaries of mathematics still apply. You don't insure lots of people with preexisting conditions without many people having to pay more.
