Re: George Will on Trump
Republican apologetics from George Will
I never thought I'd live to see this day - good lord the sky must be falling
But George forgot to explain why this duck (that walks and talks like one) isn't
And fondly recalling 1962 communist hysteria isn't really working to clear things up
It would have been more intellectually honest if George Will just said "Vote for Walker"
instead he chose to say "vote for Walker" by saying "Don't vote for Trump"
*Yawn

Yeah he did. But not in the way that you think.Ivytalk wrote:As usual, Will got to the heart of the matter.

The cream of the jest is, of course, that that loony business man George refers to was founding member Fred Koch, whose sons, (high ranking Birchers themselves in the 60s, owners of Scott Walker, the candidate who pays Will's wife's salary), are the tail that wags the GOP dog.
George may still have a bit more splainin to do...

Why 5th beer, and book club organizing? In every town large enough to have two traffic lights there is a bar at the back of which sits the local Donald Trump, nursing his fifth beer and innumerable delusions....
tea partyers, those earnest, issue-oriented, book-club organizing activists...
Careful George, you're alienating an awful lot of the base.
Will can at times make sense but I think it's safe to say we're all a little dumber for reading this article.

Re: George Will on Trump
Will's fondness for Walker aside, I don't think he misses the mark too badly on Trump. The man is clearly a political work in progress, shaping his stance on issues as he goes and more worried about a popularity contest than actually creating a plan that the average Joe can get behind. The scary thing is that it appears to be working - IMO, most people don't identify with the scorched earth, far right Tea Partiers and are a bit more centrist, which is what is appealing about Trump even though I don't believe he actually means any of it.
The message of not being a political insider or career politician and the promise of "straight talk, no BS, no political correctness, just get it done" is a message that does appeal to many. I personally don't care for the messenger.

Donald Trump is a side show. At the end of the day it appears that his objective is to message his ego and gain respectability within the political elite. How far he is willing to go to do that is the question. He will have a very powerful voice in who becomes the next president, using his own money not that of others. I see no way that it will be the Donald and my guess is that when he started, neither did he.
