Zallensky ran on an anti-corruption campaign. Probably because of the likes of Hunter Biden and Paul Manafort.

All wars are proxy wars until. The concern here from the very start was greater conflict compromising NATO members and dragging us in.

One man started this war and one man can stop it from spreading.
Running on an anti-corruption platform is just rhetoric. I don't think we were dragged into anything, we chose to be there. The question now is how much more of "us" will be dragged into it.

When did this war start, and by whom?
Depends on your perspective. You could make a case that it started at least during WWII which was also partly started by WWI and the treaties resulting. Or the Crimean War of the 1800’s. Or it started in 2014, or during the Orange Revolution. Regardless, Russia has its handprints on Ukraine and Russia is the one breaking it.

The West has pragmatic reasons for supporting Ukraine not to mention moral obligations just like it’s had but disregarded in other places around the world. That doesn’t change the fact that we need Ukraine to win this one.

And the rumors are that Russia is going to fully mobilize next week. If you thought the first month had a shocking number of conscripts ill prepared for front line fighting...... it's gonna get *ugly*

Is an anti-corruption campaign platform kind of like a "drain the swamp" campaign where a con-artist plans to replace the established grift with his own grift? What kind of sucker falls for that? :D

Agreed. This is a blood feud that goes way back, no need for the US to ever have gotten intertwined in this whole debacle...yet here we are. :ohno:

I'm glad we are getting ready to intentionally reduce our ground forces. We'll have about the 7th or 8th largest standing army in the world. Anything bigger is too much of a temptation for the interventionists.
:notworthy:  :notworthy: :thumb:

That being said, it will be interesting to see how NATO reacts if Putin does decide to invade the rest of Ukraine. I imagine it would inevitably be split into three different countries East Ukraine/West Ukraine/Crimea. Nonetheless, it should be an interesting couple of weeks.

Where?

Russia is getting pushed back from Kharkiv from Ukrainian counterattacks. Donbas is otherwise a stalemate and not much has changed.

It's been over a month since they launched their second offensive and it's a stalemate at best or them.

Ukrainian forces have destroyed the first T-90 M, the Russians top in-service Main Battle Tank (MBT)…
News of what appears to be the first T-90M tank destroyed in Ukraine should lift the spirits of the Ukrainian forces, given its status as the most technologically advanced and capable tank within Russia’s frontline military arsenal. The initial batch of production T-90M tanks were only issued to the 2nd Guards M. I. Kalinin Taman Motor Rifle Division of the 1st Guards Tank Army in the spring of 2020, with recent estimates suggesting that only 100 or so models are currently in service in total. The much-hyped, but still not proven, T-14 Armata main battle tanks, aren't yet ready for frontline combat and are in very short supply. This is mainly due to the financial realities of producing a brand new tank and the development it takes to make it actually work as promised. So, the Uralvagonzavod-designed T-90M serves as an important update to the T-90 line of tanks, first introduced in the early 1990s as a direct outgrowth of the T-72. The T-90M follows the T-90MS Proryv-2 (Breakthrough 2), an upgrade of the export-centered T-90S variant, which was revealed in 2011.

While losing any of its prized T-90M tanks is obviously a blow, the Russian Army has had to deal with other issues related to its tank arsenal during the conflict. In particular, older Soviet-era tanks, including the T-72 and T-80 models, which have been used widely in the invasion, have suffered from a much-publicized ‘jack-in-the-box’ effect due to how rounds for the tank's main gun are stored internally in the hull. This often results in the turret violently separating from the rest of the vehicle hull if an attack causes that ammunition to cook off.

I'd love to hear you state your case as to why this invasion isn't 100% on Putin. It hard to believe that you still think anybody would swallow your bullshit given all the real time information available to the public that proves you have no idea wtf you're talking about. Did you not check out the osi sources that CID sourced for you? The amount of ice needed to cool that burn would raise the sea level 10'

That was the first pic of a Russian tank I saw where the turret stayed on the tank. No wonder the troops are sabotaging their own equipment.

You've been giddy about the Donbas pincer for a couple of months. Russia has abandoned Kyiv to apply more pressure. And??

I thought 45k Ukrainians we're about to be surrounded at the end of Feb? :coffee:

Still no?

Giddy? Naw. Anyone with a brain knew Ukraine had no chance at a conventional war without US/NATO boots on the ground or enforcement of a no fly zone against Russia. The only people surprised are the people that bought into the "Ukraine is winning" narratives. The longer this draws on, the weaker hand Ukraine has in negotiations with Russia.

Better question you should be asking is who is encouraging Ukraine to fight on and why.
Just the opposite, amigo. No way Russia can sustain the costs of keeping an occupying Army in Ukraine, in blood or money. You are overestimating their abilities - they're tough against civilians but strictly third world vs Ukraine and NATO weaponry. Conscripts that are breaking their own equipment to avoid combat vs. people defending their homes? Seriously, dude....whats with all this commie sympathizer crap? A Democrat gets elected and overnight you become a COMSYMP? ..... SDHornet :ohno:
