Actually, you've got it ass-backwards. BSU and Idaho AD's saw the writing on the wall with Papa Bear and '95 just sealed the deal. They KNEW Montana was going to dominate for YEARS and if they wanted to ever win anything again they had to get out of the same conference as Montana, so they bolted to the Big West Conference.EWURanger wrote:That's why I said "a lot of it" as opposed to "all of it". BSU and Idaho were still in the league in '95 when Montana won the NC. They beat BSU that year 54-28. Montana has beaten Idaho the last four times they played and 8 of the last 10.
My point in all this is if we can all agree that the Big Sky was a more competitive conference top to bottom back when BSU. Nevada, and Idaho were still playing in it - then surely even Montana fans must admit that it would have been much harder for the aforementioned schools to replicate what Montana did in terms of winning streaks, conference championships, and play-off runs while the old BSC was still intact.
Again, I'm not taking anything away from UM, but their rise to dominance in the BSC was at least partially facilitated by the departure of Nevada and the Idaho schools.

Re: Analyzing the WAC
I don't think it is really worth all this pissing. The BSC may be a better conference but it is still FCS and will always be perceived as such. Kind of how the BSC and CAA look down, now, on the SLC or Pioneer League...think about it.
The WAC may be the bottom of the barrel in the FBS pecking order but it's still FBS and people know about it.
As I have stated before, I'm not happy about the (so called) move up but I have no say in it, never did. I don't like it but it's where TXST is going and I have to live with it.

Eastern's title this year will have Montana fleeing to the WAC for the same reason. (Doing my best BF).AZGrizFan wrote:Actually, you've got it ass-backwards.
